A multi-drop driver delivers lots of parcels to lots of different addresses in one shift. That is the “multi” part. Instead of taking one large load from A to B, you might make well over a hundred stops in a day, dropping parcels at homes, flats, shops and offices along a planned route.
Most of the job happens in a small van. You collect your parcels from a local delivery station at the start of the day, load them in a sensible order, then follow your route. A delivery app on your phone tells you where to go next and records each drop. When your route is done, you head back, hand over anything that could not be delivered and finish for the day.

Why there are so many multi-drop jobs right now
Online shopping has become a normal part of life. People order clothes, food, gifts, phone chargers and household basics online, and they expect them to arrive quickly. Next-day delivery is standard, and same-day delivery is becoming more common in towns and cities.
Every one of those orders has to travel the “last mile”, which is the final leg from the local depot to the customer’s front door. That last mile is where multi-drop drivers come in. Anyone can learn the practical side of the job. The drivers who do best tend to share a few habits and qualities:
Reliability. This is the big one. Routes are planned around the drivers booked in for the day. If you do not turn up, parcels do not get delivered, and customers are let down. Being on time, every time, will make you stand out quickly.
Good time management. A route of around nine hours goes much more smoothly if you load your van well, keep your cab tidy and do not waste time looking for parcels.
Calm under pressure. Traffic, roadworks, rain and tricky addresses happen. The best drivers stay calm, solve the problem and move on to the next drop.
Reasonable fitness. You will be getting in and out of the van, climbing stairs and carrying parcels all day. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable being active.

What a typical working week looks like
Our multi-drop routes are roughly nine hours long. Drivers can usually choose to work between four and six days a week, including at least one weekend day. That gives you a lot of control over how much you work and when.
A normal day goes something like this:
- Arrive at the delivery station at your start time and check in.
- Collect your parcels, which are organised and ready for you when you arrive.
- Load your van in route order so the first drops are easiest to reach.
- Follow your route using the delivery app, which guides you from stop to stop.
- Deliver and record each parcel, taking photos or signatures where needed.
- Return to the station once your route is complete and finish your shift.
Weekends, bank holidays and the weeks before Christmas are usually the busiest times. If you want to build up your hours, those periods are when extra work tends to appear.
How to spot a good delivery job
When you start looking, you will see a mix of adverts from carriers, agencies and delivery networks. Before you apply, it is worth checking a few things:
Is the pay clear? A good advert tells you roughly what you can earn. Be wary of adverts that promise huge amounts without explaining how.
Is there proper support? Ask who you contact if something goes wrong on your route. Having a real team to call makes a big difference, especially in your first few weeks.
Is training included? New drivers should be shown how the app works, how to load the van and how the delivery station runs.

Be honest about your availability. It is better to agree to four days you know you can do than six you might struggle with.
Tidy up your CV. It does not need to be fancy. It needs your licence details, the areas you can cover, any work history that shows reliability and contact details you actually check.
